Human Resources (HR) Generalist

The Human Resources Generalist is responsible for supporting the day-to-day operations of all human resources functions at the company.   The HR Generalist reports to and receives work direction derivatives from the Director for Human Resources.  The HR Generalist will perform the following duties:
 
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Administer the day-to-day operations of all human resources functions, supporting over 200 multi-state employees, such as benefits administration, employee relations, training, onboarding, policy implementation, recruitment/employment, affirmative action and employment law compliance.
  • Maintain the confidentiality of all employee information while ensuring that HR operations are handled in accordance with current Federal, State, and local standards, guidelines, and regulations.
  • Assist hiring managers in sourcing quality applications for open positions by tracking applicants, evaluate qualifications, conduct screening interviews, and maintaining the Applicant Tracking System (ATS).
  • Provides assistance with benefits administration to include enrolling new hires, employee communications, assisting with open enrollment process, termination of benefits, monthly bill reconciliation and recordkeeping.
  • Maintain HR records, develops reports and metrics for management as required utilizing the company’s HRIS, Paycor.
  • Responsible for the onboarding process to include collecting and processing new hire paperwork, conducting new hire orientation, mailing new employee gear, checking in with project managers and new employees to ensure successful onboarding experience.
  • Assist Project Managers in maintaining current position descriptions for all company employees.
  • Conduct employee relations assistance and investigations under the guidance of the Director for Human Resources.
  • Assist in maintaining and periodically updating the Employee Handbook and other written policies and procedures. Interpret and apply policies and procedures; train staff as necessary.
  • Participate in headquarters staff meetings and attend other meetings and seminars as required.
  • Perform clerical duties such as answering phones, mailing correspondence with employees and the maintenance of filing in compliance with retention requirements.
  • Assist Director for Human Resources with various research and special projects.
  • Performs other related duties as required and assigned.
EDUCATION
  • Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or related field required.
  • PHR certification and/or SHRM-CP designation, preferred.
EXPERIENCE
  • The ideal candidate will have 3-5 years of progressive experience in Human Resources.
  • Must have solid human resources generalist skills in areas of recruitment, employee engagement, employee relations, payroll and benefits. Regulatory compliance and employment law knowledge necessary.

  • Strong interpersonal, customer service and employee relations skills. This includes being polished, courteous, professional, and patient.
  • Experience working with government contracts and/or military services preferred.
  • Experience and solid understanding of HRIS & ATS system utilization preferred.
  • Ability to exercise sound judgment and maintain confidentiality.
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, customer service and collaborative team environment.
  • Knowledge of current employment, benefits regulations, and best practices.
  • Demonstrated initiative, flexibility, and ingenuity with the ability to effectively achieve organizational established goals and objectives.
  • Strong analytical, organizational and time management skills necessary.
  • Able to design and write clear employee communications and present training programs in English.
  • Proficient in computer applications such as Windows and MS Office.
WORKING CONDITIONS
  • Subject to frequent interruptions
  • Capacity to sit for extended periods of time and maintain focus in an office environment.
  • Ability to climb stairs, as the building does not have elevator access.
  • Daily travel in local area during work day (including use of personal vehicle).
  • Qualification as an authorized company driver is required.
  • All authorized company drivers must have a valid driver’s license, current automobile insurance, and a driving record that is acceptable to the company’s auto insurance provider.
