Modeling and Simulation- Simulation Technician

Quantico, VA
The Modeling and Simulation – Simulation Technician reports to the MSTP Program Manager and receives work direction derivatives from the Modeling and Simulation Section Lead.

  • Designs, installs, configures, operates, and maintains Simulations, such as MTWS, VBS3, ACE-IOS, and JLVC to support day-to-day operations and deployed events.
  • Install, configures, operates, and maintains all unclassified and classified RedHat Linux (6.0, 7.0) servers that operate MTWS. 
  • Install, configures, and maintains VBS3 suite of laptops using the SDS provided by PMTRASYS. 
  • Designs, installs, configures, operates, and maintains Simulation networks using switches, routers, and other networking. 
  • Install, configures, and maintains JLVC suite using MTWS and HLA/DIS Bridge to connect to multiple simulations to integration testing and validation events. 
  • Basic audio and video setups for Simulations.
  • Perform other related duties incidental to the work described
  • Bachelor’s degree in an IT discipline.
  • DoD 8570.1-M IAT Level II or higher required – Current DoD approved IA baseline certification (CCNA Security, CySA+, GICSP, GSEC, Security+ CE, SSCP); a minimum of one valid Computing Environment (CE)/Operating System (OS) Certificate (i.e. MS Windows Server 2012 R2 Cert, MS Windows 10 cert, a VMware 6.0 Cert); and at least 3 years in IA technology or a related area.
  • Familiar with different distributions of Linux (RedHat, Ubuntu, CentOS, etc.)
  • Basic networking skills (routers, switches, Cat5/6 cables)
  • At least 3 to 5 years of related work experience in IT.
  • Demonstrated subject matter expertise with Modeling and Simulation and Simulation Operations.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a cohesive team is required.
  • Basic understanding of scripting languages (Bash, Sh, Python, Powershell, MSDOS, PHP, Tcl, Perl)
  • Direct participation in real world operations is desired.

  • Must meet DoD 8570.1‐M Information Assurance workforce program requirements for Information Assurance Technical (IAT) Level II or higher.
  • Must possess and maintain training and certifications sufficient to be granted privileged access to Marine Corps information technology (IT) and information systems (IS) through documented completion of required training and certification.
  • Required to sit for extended periods of time and maintain focus
  • Daily travel in local area during work day (including use of personal vehicle)
  • Be able to work an unstable schedule, to include holidays and weekends.
  • Requires 10% - 20% travel – both CONUS and OCONUS – single trips be up to five weeks in duration
  • Qualification as an authorized company driver is required. All authorized company drivers must have a valid driver’s license, current automobile insurance, and a driving record that is acceptable to the company’s auto insurance provider.
  • Daily travel in local area during work day (including use of personal vehicle).


  • A Secret security clearance is required for this position.
  • This position also requires a completed Personnel Security Investigation that will qualify the incumbent to be eligible for access to at least the TS-SCI level, and the individual must be read-in for NATO level access.
