Joint Aviation Operations Analyst

Quantico, VA

The Senior Analyst Group (SAG) Joint Aviation Operations Analyst receives work direction from the MSTP Exercise Design Branch (EDB) Chief and Corps Solutions MSTP Project Manager.


  • Possess detailed and functional knowledge of the Marine Corps and joint/combined Planning Processes and Marine Corps and joint doctrine related to Aviation Operations.
  • Possess detailed and functional knowledge of the joint Air Tasking Order process.
  • Possess detailed and functional knowledge of joint Theater Air Ground System and Marine Corps Command and Control System.
  • Possess detailed and functional knowledge of Theater Battle Management Core System.
  • Conduct tactical and operational planning at the conceptual, functional, and detailed levels for service and functional component organizations, as well as, joint headquarters organizations in the area of emphasis. 
  • Perform research of concepts and plans and conducts analysis of empirical data.
  • Perform Observer Trainer Collector (OTC) duties in support of MSTP exercises.
  • Prepare reports, briefs, and documents to support event scenario development and higher and adjacent headquarters functions. 
  • Provide inputs and participates in Final After Action Reviews.
  • Provide inputs and assist Site Lead development of exercise Final Exercise Reports.
  • Create and edit documents, analyzes problem areas, and suggests feasible solutions. 
  • Plan and prepare lesson plans and seminars, and provides instruction and event analysis on Marine Corps and joint/combined doctrine to Field Grade and General Officers. 
  • Review, write, and provide comments on Marine Corps and joint doctrine documents. 
  • Assist in reviewing classified material. Conduct derivative classification of documents as needed to produce exercise planning material. 
  • Review, revise, write, and provide comments on Marine Corps and joint doctrine documents, best practices, and Tactics Techniques & Procedures not covered by doctrine (i.e., Marine Corps Interim Publication, MSTP Pamphlet).
  • Perform other related duties incidental to the work described.


  • Graduate of military Top Level School is preferred.  Examples include: Naval War College, Armed Forces Staff College, National Defense University, or Industrial College of the Armed Forces. 
  • Graduate of the Marine Aviation Weapons and Tactics School (MAWTS-1) is preferred.
  • Master’s degree in operations research, business management, military science, or equivalent area is preferred.


  • Designated Naval Aviator, Naval Flight Officer, or qualified Senior Air Director within the Marine Air C2 System. 
  • Minimum eight years of operational experience in deployment and employment of aviation, supporting arms, or combat service support units and related equipment at the Higher Headquarters level.
  • Minimum three years of demonstrated knowledge of military doctrine, tactics, and command relationships as measured by actual assignment at a Marine Expeditionary Brigade, Marine Expeditionary Force, Higher Headquarters Untied States Marine Corps, or Joint Combatant Command headquarters level. Assignment at other Service level higher headquarters will be considered in lieu of Marine Corps experience.
  • Direct experience in real world contingency operations is desired.

  • Required to sit for extended periods of time and maintain focus.
  • Be able to work an occasionally unstable schedule, to include holidays and weekends.


  • Requires 10% - 20% travel – both CONUS and OCONUS.
  • Possess current U.S. Government passport.
  • Qualification as an authorized company driver is required. All authorized company drivers must have a valid driver’s license, current automobile insurance, and a driving record that is acceptable to the company’s auto insurance provider.
  • Occasional travel in local area during work day (including use of personal vehicle).


  • A Secret security clearance is required for this position.
  • This position also requires a completed Personnel Security Investigation that will qualify the incumbent to be eligible for access to at least the TS-SCI level, and the individual must be read-in for NATO level access.
