Accounting and Payroll Assistant

The Accounting and Payroll Assistant will report directly to the Director of Finance and Accounting and will be responsible for a variety of tasks to include data entry, assist in the processing of timecards and expense reports, and provide accounting system support for employees.  This person must have excellent organizational and interpersonal skills as well as great attention to detail and the ability to communicate clearly. The Accounting and Payroll Assistant will perform the following duties:
  • Entering corporate credit card transactions into the company accounting system, JAMIS.
  • Assisting in the disbursement and management of the corporate credit cards.
  • Provide support to all company employees having issues with timecard entries and submissions.
  • Assisting the Director of Payroll in biweekly timecard processing.
  • Fielding questions from employees with respect to the status of travel reports, expense reports and payments thereof.
  • Processing, recording, and reporting of travel requests and travel claims.
  • Assisting with the organization of accounting records.
  • Assisting the Travel Management office as directed.
  • Participating in business meetings, events, and company functions to support management team.
  • Supporting other tasks related to payroll and accounting as directed.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Accounting, or related field, preferred.
  • A minimum of one year of experience in bookkeeping, payroll processing, or other related accounting experience (accounts payable, accounts receivable, etc.)
  • A minimum of one year of experience working with accounting and payroll systems is required. 
Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
  • Strong administrative and coordination skills, as well as troubleshooting skills with an effective customer-service orientation. 
  • Strong communication and presentation skills. Able to read, write, and communicate effectively in English. Able to design and write clear communications and present training programs.
  • People-oriented with excellent organizational and communication skills (interpersonal and written)
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Experience working with government contracts and/or military services preferred.
  • Proficient in computer applications such as Windows and MS Office.
  • Capacity to sit for extended periods of time and maintain focus in an office environment.
  • Ability to climb stairs, as the building does not have elevator access.
  • Daily travel in local area during workday (including use of personal vehicle).
  • Requires 0% - 5% travel
