Exercise Planner

Camp Pendleton, CA
The Exercise Planner reports to and receives work direction derivatives from the Task Order Manager.  The Exercise Planner will perform the following duties:

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Conduct analysis on the I MEF exercise planning process in accordance with the I MEF MAGTF Development Program, and the I MEF exercise standing operating procedure.  Provide guidance and recommendations of revising both foundational documents.
  • Provide guidance and conduct planning of I MEF, Service, Naval, and Joint exercises and Bilateral/Multilateral events, as well as exercise/event support with a focus on improving force readiness for contingency and crisis operations and deployments.
  • Provide SME support on Naval and Joint exercise design, to include the intricacies of Theater Security Cooperation, in order to support all elements of the I MEF MAGTF. This support will include coordination with relevant higher, adjacent, and coalition force planners and analysts in support of any given I MEF exercise/event.
  • Provide SME support to internal I MEF exercise/event processes to include development of design and implementation of exercise storylines, vignettes, and Master Scenario Events Lists and management of “dynamic scripting” during the exercise.
  • Conduct analysis of technical and logistical data during exercise life cycles, specifically focusing on recommendations to leverage good practices in support of OPLAN/CONPLAN and theater/service specific objectives. 
  • Assist with the development of exercise control recommendations for I MEF’s efforts to plan and execute MEF/MEF (Forward)-level exercises without support from external exercise design and control organizations.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
  • Twelve (12) + years of experience and a BA/BS is required, MA/MS degree preferred.
  • Attended Professional Military Education appropriate to rank at time of separation or retirement from the uniformed service. 
  • Experience on a 3 Star or 4 Star staff is desired.

  • Strong communications and presentation skills.
  • Have a working knowledge of the Marine Corps and Joint Planning Process.
  • Able to read, write, and communicate effectively in English. 
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent organizational, planning and prioritization skills.
  • Proficient in computer applications such as Windows and MS Office.
  • Expected to perform independently and exercise good judgment.
WORKING CONDITIONS
  • Required to sit for extended periods of time and maintain focus.
  • Qualification as an authorized company driver is required.
  • All authorized company drivers must have a valid driver’s license, current automobile insurance, and a driving record that is acceptable to the company’s auto insurance provider.
SPECIAL POSITION NOTATIONS
  • Ability to obtain or have a security clearance.
  • 15-25% travel expected.
  • Position expected to begin on or about 15 Jan 2021.
