Senior Doctrine Technical Writer

Quantico, VA
The Senior Doctrine Technical Writer reports to and receives work direction derivatives from the Project Manager. The Senior Doctrine Technical Writer will perform the following duties:
  • Possesses outstanding writing skills, mastery of the English language, and knowledge of grammar. 
  • Must be able to format documentation into camera-ready documents that follow Federal Printing Regulations Standards and require no additional formatting prior to printing by the Government. 
  • Edits the work of technical writers. 
  • Must be able to translate complex strategic and doctrinal issues and express them in a clear and concise writing style. 
  • Must have knowledge of service level and joint doctrine, field manuals, and policy. 
  • Can use graphic techniques to portray complex data and concepts. 
  • Edits and writes complex strategic and doctrinal material and documentation per guidance established-by United States Marine Corps (USMC) standards. 
  • Conducts research and analysis during events. 
  • Attends conferences and meetings at both the resident site and other locations off site. 
  • Assists in reviewing classified material and recommends a lesser classification for use in events, models, simulations, demonstrations, reports, publications, and briefings. 
  • Assists in preparing, orchestrating, and presenting post event critiques and after action reviews, training evaluations, and validation reports, including all historical documentation. 
  • Advises the MSTP Director on doctrine matters and suggests subjects that may be candidates for doctrine publications.
  • Perform other related duties incidental to the work described
  • Master’s degree is required with a major in operations research, history, management, military science, or equivalent area desired.
  • Minimum three years of experience in military training and education. 
  • Attendance at Intermediate Level School such as Marine Corps CSC or completion of equivalent nonresident course is required. 
  • Attendance at School of Advanced Warfare (SAW) or equivalent 2nd year Professional Military Education (PME) program is required.
  • Minimum eight years of operational experience in deployment and employment of ground combat, aviation, supporting arms, and combat service support units and related equipment. 
  • Minimum three years of demonstrated knowledge of military doctrine, tactics, and command relationships at the operational command level as measured by actual operational force employment experience. 
  • Direct participation in real world operation is desired.

  • Required to sit for extended periods of time and maintain focus
  • Daily travel in local area during work day (including use of personal vehicle)
  • Ability to obtain or have a security clearance
  • Requires 0% - 5% travel
