Latin American (LATAM) Research Analyst

Quantico, VA
The LATAM Research Analyst (RA) will work in a team environment supporting the Marine Corps Center for Advanced Operational Culture Learning (CAOCL) with the Marine Corps University (MCU).  He/she will utilize expertise in Latin America to conduct research, analysis, and to write on a variety of topics in the region. This position is responsible for the development of the curriculum content for the Professional Military Education (PME) online program, the Regional, Cultural, and Language Familiarization Program (RCLF) for the Marine Corps general-purpose force. He/she must have a keen understanding of the sociocultural and historical context of the various cultures in the region, and be knowledgeable of the current political and security challenges, of the assigned area. The LATAM RA can identify and incorporate operationally relevant knowledge into training and education programs for Marines at all levels of grade and military occupational specialty.  The LATAM Research Analyst shall possess the following capabilities:

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Provide research and writing capability sufficient to provide analytical rigor necessary to generate operationally relevant cultural products
  • Research, analyze, develop, and revise the content of culture publications in partnership with curriculum developers while adhering to standardized formats
  • Network and collaborate with other researchers and subject matter experts in support of CAOCL tasks
  • Provide regional expertise for content development and sustainment of the Regional, Cultural and Language Familiarization Program
  • Perform other related duties incidental to the work described
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE
  • Master's Degree in regional/security studies with a field concentration
  • Must speak and read at least one of the languages in the region
  • Experience in supporting the Marine Corps or other DOD organizations preferred

  • Ability to work on a pre-determined production schedule in support of a teaming organization
  • Working knowledge of existing culture and regional resources, curricula, reference materials, books, and other media produced by internal DoD resources as well as sources external to DoD
  • Above average English language oral and written skills
  • Experience in studying, living or visiting assigned regions
  • Proficient in computer applications such as Windows and MS Office
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Excellent organizational, planning and prioritization skills
  • Excellent interpersonal skills
WORKING CONDITIONS
  • Required to sit for extended periods and maintain focus
SPECIAL POSITION NOTATIONS
  • Ability to obtain or have a security clearance preferred
  • Requires 0% - 10% travel
